New Places To Shop & Enjoy Christmas And The Winter Season

Christmas in New York is now just one week away! People are getting ready with last-minute shopping and preparing to travel for the holidays. Among the vast expanse of the five boroughs are several new places for families, friends, locals, and tourists to come and have fun this winter. Below are five such attractions that are sure to make the holiday season in NYC bright and festive.

1. Ice skating rink at Domino Square in Williamsburg, Brooklyn

Located along the waterfront of WIlliamsburg, Brooklyn is the neighborhood's first ice skating rink at Domino Park. Open to all age groups and skill levels, the rink offers prime views of the WIlliamsburg Bridge and the Manhattan skyline across the East River. Visitors must first reserve online tickets on Domino Park's main website before heading to the rink. General admission for a 75-minute session is $18.00 and must also pick and choose a time of arrival. The site is open every day from Monday to Friday from noon to 9pm, and Saturdays and Sundays from 9am to 9pm.

2. Urbanspace Markets in front of Macy's Herald Square in Midtown, Manhattan

Directly in front of the iconic Macy's department store in Midtown, Manhattan is a new Urbanspace Markets in Herald Square. The outdoor market hosts over 150 vendors across two distinct spaces. The new destination is called Macy's Holiday Square, and can also be enjoyed with the department store's annual Christmas window displays lining the ground floor of the building. Other vendors are located inside Macy's across every floor. Urbanspace Markets runs until January 3.

3. Grand Central Terminal Holiday Fair and Grand Brasserie restaurant in Vanderbilt Hall

Situated inside one of the most iconic pieces of New York City architecture is the Grand Central Terminal Holiday Fair. Located within Vanderbilt Hall on the southern end of the train station, the 6,000-square-foot indoor artisan market is presented by the Costa Rica Tourism Board and includes the very first Grand Central Terminal merchandise booth: The Grand Gift Shop. The shops run until Christmas Eve and are open every day from 10am to 10pm.

4.  Le Cafe Louis Vuitton at 6 East 57th Street

While not a Christmas-themed destination, this exquisite high-end cafe is only a short walk away from the many stores that line Fifth Avenue. The recently opened cafe is located within Louis Vuitton's temporarily relocated flagship store at 6 East 57th Street along Billionaire's Row. The dining space holds a bar and table seating among the French Parisian's vast set of luxury bags, trunks, clothes and accessories that are spread across multiple levels. Reservations must be made in advance in order to book a seat. The safe opens every day at 10am and closes at 8pm. Don't forget to also check out Louis Vuitton's impressive scaffolding display across the street at 1 East 57th Street, which features a nighttime light projection displayed across the exterior of the building, which is currently undergoing a multi-million dollar renovation for the next couple of years.

5. Skylift at Top of The Rock atop 30 Rockefeller Center

Our last contender is the newest thrill-seeking ride in New York City, called Skylift at Top of The Rock. Located at the iconic observatory atop 30 Rockefeller Center, the ride brings visitors 30 feet above the outdoor rooftop space featuring a round glass floor, clear glass railings, and 360-degree views of the city high over the crowds of tourists below your feet. The Skylift at Top of The Rock also slowly rotates, and takes your photo that you can collect as a souvenir in the gift shop. The ride is an extra add-on to your ticket and ranges from $40 to $61 for general admission, depending on the time of day and day of the month one selects when buying tickets online.
